Yesterday, reminiscing about my Scoutmaster years, I wrote a list of needs for every boy. Still celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts (next Wednesday), I want to continue my observations from the 1980s, looking at the don’t needs for every boy.
Here is my list of what is not needed by every boy as they grow into men.
- Boys don’t need rejection
- Boys don’t need criticism
- Boys don’t need to be screamed at
- Boys don’t need to be told their stupid
- Boys don’t need fashions
- Boys don’t need cell phones
- Boys don’t need clean blue jeans every day
- Boys don’t need hounding
- Boys don’t need their self-worth questioned
- Boys don’t need to be lied too
- Boys don’t need a bath every night
- Boys don’t need deodorant when their camping out
- Boys don’t need to be given everything they want
- Boys don’t need coddling
- Boys don’t need to skip breakfast
- Boys don’t need cooties from girls
- Boys don’t need ignoring
- Boys don’t need lackluster direction
- Boys don’t need to be coerced
- Boys don’t need unnecessary discipline
- Boys don’t need negative feedback
- Boys don’t need snap reactions
- Boys don’t need physical abuse
- Boys don’t need mental abuse
- Boys don’t need too tight a leash
- Boys don’t need too loose a leash
- Boys don’t need to get away with everything
- Boys don’t need bullying
- Boys don’t need to wear shoes in the summer
- Boys don’t need swimsuits for the ole’ swimming hole
Now you have my list of what every boy does and does not need as they grow up.
Did I miss anything on either list? Let me know in the comments.

Great lists for a father of twin 10 year old boys.
Two more dos:
Boys need cars (hot wheels, legos, cool cars to look at)
Boys need to make their own games
Great additions, Dave.
And on cars, I forgot Hot Rod Magazine. How could I forget that?
